Celebrating 60 years of Expert Roto training in Leinfelden-Echterdingen
Roto Frank Window & Door Technology (Roto FTT) is keenly aware that the strength of a company lies in its staff. That’s why they’ve been investing in technical training for 60 years and in commercial training for 25 years at its headquarters in Leinfelden-Echterdingen.
The company’s aim is to streamline value chain processes in order to continuously improve customer benefits. Training within the company is a “crucial foundation for this,” as emphasized by Site HR Manager Sophie Urban. “Many of our staff and managers have been familiar with our internal processes since their training. However, they have experienced new technical and organizational development with us and have continuously grown due to these. This ensures long-term quality in all areas and paves the way to success for us and our customers.”
Roto FTT has trained 215 people in industrial mechanics since 1964, with a focus on conventional metalwork as the basis of the technical training. However, Roto has extended this training to include electronics and mechatronics. Markus Schwarz, Head of Technical Training, explains: “The increase in automation in production and the use of automatic assembly machines, robots, and driverless transport systems have created the need to adapt our training path.” Schwarz joined the company in 1986 as a trainee toolmaker and has overseen technical training since 2011.
Thanks to its expertise in technical training, Roto has been appointed an examination center for industrial mechanics. Trainees take the exams directly at the manufacturing plant in Leinfelden in the presence of a Chamber of Industry and Commerce examination board.
Commercial training at Roto began in 1999, under the leadership of Erika-Dittmann Frank. To date, 174 people have completed commercial training or a dual study program at Roto in Leinfelden. Beatrix Kraft began her career as an industrial business management assistant at Roto but has handled training since 2022. She is proof of how Roto creates career prospects for its trainees and states: “One of my goals is to work with Ms. Urban and Mr. Schwarz to promote career prospects for our trainees and students.”
In partnership with the Cooperative State University (DHBW) Stuttgart, Roto provides trainees with the opportunity to complete a dual study program. Trainees can earn a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Business Administration or International Business Management, a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering with Business Studies, or a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems.
Roto is involved in “fierce competition for the best up-and-coming talents,” because other internationally leading industrial companies are based in Stuttgart as well. “This is why Roto established educational partnerships with regional High schools several years ago and also collaborates closely with universities in the German state of Baden-Württemberg,” states Sophie Urban.
The good to excellent exam results consistently achieved by the trainees also demonstrate the high quality of the training. Roto is often among the top of the ranked companies in nationwide comparative competitions. Roto sees this as an “endorsement of the training concept, which has grown over the decades.”
Urban summarizes the company’s training philosophy: “With our diverse and tailored training concept, we involve our apprentices and students on dual study programs intensively from day one and prepare them in the best possible way for a subsequent professional career at Roto.” A total of 18 global manufacturing plants and more than 30 sales subsidiaries offer career opportunities. This makes Roto the “perfect match” for young talents who want to experience a practice-based, international, and forward-looking environment right from the start.
